Cartoonist Scott Getchell has been a fixture on the Boston art and music scene since the early '80s. Recently he's done sequential-art reviews of concerts by Soul Asylum and the Upper Crust for the Boston Phoenix, and his "Death of Rudolph" appeared in the 1995 Phoenix Seasons issue. His work has also appeared in a variety of other publications, and his comic strip Evans at Large is one of the most popular regular features of the Boston-based music 'zine Boston Rock.
More important, this year Getchell published his first book, Richie Killed My Toads, an anthology of his rich autobiographical work, which was made possible by a grant from the Xerxes Foundation. The book is a popular title in comics shops in Boston and throughout the country. Getchell has a second anthology in the works and is seeking a publisher. Fire Drill will be included in that volume.
