AMERICAN STANDARD
This Florida-based quartet have been derisively described by Brett Milano as
sounding like a
Lynyrd Skynyrd
tribute band, but if they were half that good it
would be a blessing. Aiming for the lyrical earnestness of
Live,
Seven Mary Three
flounder on quality and delivery. Leading off with
"Water's Edge," the
boys swipe their murky murder-mystery lyrics from the plot of the movie
River's Edge. Lead vox J. Ross has also listened to his
Metallica
collection one time too many, because his James Hetfield impression has
degenerated into a whiny growl. Every word that ends in "y" is inevitably drawn
out for dramatic effect: "glory" becomes "glor-hee-ee." Their radio-friendly
"Cumbersome"
features a catchy riff whose appeal wears off after the third
listen, as do the lyrics "I have become cumbersome to my girl."
