Grecian Yearning

The Grecian Yearning is a family-run short-order diner that becomes a hangover haven every weekend, as twentysomethings rotate through the tables usually occupied by families and regulars.

They come for the quick, flavorful omelets ($2.95 to $4.25), served all day, with an array of ingredients that ranges from cheese to vegetables to ham. All are accompanied by baked-to-a-crisp home fries. Or there are the heaping piles of pancakes ($3.25), plain or covered in melting chocolate chips or fresh blueberries. The extensive choice of sandwiches includes overstuffed clubs ($2.50 to $4.75) and a grilled cheese you can supplement with eggplant ($3.25). A mushroom-swiss burger is $4.25; full dinners include beef, chicken, pork, or lamb souvlaki ($5.95), and anyone in a seafood mood should try the baked stuffed scrod ($6.50).

Grecian Yearning, located at 174 Harvard Avenue, in Allston, is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 254-8587.
