Burning sensation

Chef Shaikh's Raging Passion Pomegranate Habanero Sauce

by Valerie J. Cimino

NOSHING & SIPPING
The label -- complete with a little photo of, presumably, Chef Shaikh, his head surrounded by flames, and a violently sensual cross section of a pomegranate -- promises that this sauce will "tease your tastebuds" while "drenching them with raging fire." And it delivers. Unlike the more-common hot sauces made with sunny, innocuous-seeming tropical fruits, Chef Shaikh's is dark, smoky, and mysterious right from the get-go. It would overwhelm fish or chicken; instead, pour it on a hamburger or a grilled steak for Fourth of July fireworks in your mouth. A five-ounce bottle is available for $3.99 at Star Market.
