Perdix’s 7UP cake
A classic with a berry good twist
BY LARYN IVY

With so many lavender-infused, pistachio-crusted, spun-sugar-topped creations on dessert menus these days, it’s an unexpected treat to find the simple but luxurious strawberry shortcake on offer.

And the South End’s Perdix has put its spin on the summertime favorite, combining two classic desserts: 7UP cake with fresh strawberries and vanilla cream. It’s the same moist, delicious 7UP cake your mom used to make for special occasions, but with a hint of lemon and a touch of grown-up-ness to it. Fresh strawberries, with their just-picked, sweet and juicy taste of summer, are spooned generously around the cake, and the smooth and decadent vanilla cream surely comes from neither nozzled can nor plastic tub. It’s the perfect way to finish your meal and celebrate the flavors of summer.

Now if only someone would bring back Pudding in a Cloud.

Available for $8 at Perdix, 560 Tremont Street, in Boston. Call (617) 338-8070.
