Morning Star Farm chik patties
Tofu cries fowl

Say the word " tofu " and most non-vegetarians get a case of the shivers. " It’s mushy, " they say, or, " It doesn’t taste like anything. " These unenlightened folk obviously haven’t tried Morning Star Farm’s chik patties. Made of soy protein (like tofu!), these breaded babies taste just like chicken. Pop the frozen patties into the toaster oven or microwave (the former is recommended) and voilà — you have a delicious and nutritious piece of " meat " to add to a sandwich, salad, or barbecue skewer.

Since this is the opinion of a vegetarian, you might not believe that chik patties have the taste and texture of chicken down pat, but my carnivore comrades concur. I grilled some up for a party recently, and no one knew the difference until my eating them gave it away.

Available at most local grocery stores for about $3.69 for a package of four.
