GUESS WHO

Turning the tables on Stanley Kramerís 1967 drama Guess Whoís Coming to Dinner, director Kevin Rodney Sullivanís unromantic comedy brings us Bernie Mac as Percy Jones, family man and egomaniacal loan officer, and Ashton Kutcher as Simon Green, his wishy-washy potential son-in-law. Having decided not to inform her father that Simon is white, Theresa (Zoë Saldaña) introduces them just days prior to her parentsí 25th wedding anniversary. What ensues is a tired succession of set-ups in which Simon guilelessly seeks to prove his worth in the intimidating presence of Percy (who frequently refers to himself in the third person). Uncomfortable as this is for Simon, itís more so for the audience to watch Kutcher goof his way unconvincingly through the movie. Guess Who is about understanding, and itís my guess that anyone whoís seen the trailer has understood all there is to know about the film. (103 minutes)
