STEALTH

Whoosh! That’s not the sound of a supersonic jet — it’s an Oscar and a Pulitzer getting flushed down the toilet. Jamie Foxx and Sam Shepard along with a chisel-jawed Josh Lucas and shapely Jessica Biel get enlisted in this dud about a Navy über-jet piloted by artificial intelligence. The AI fly guy goes by the name of Eddie and manifests the same amiable/homicidal polarity as HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey. He’s supposed to be the new wingman to a trio of affirmative-action-friendly aces (Foxx, Biel and Lucas), but when he starts to think on his own, the hi-tech drone takes off for Russia and North Korea. Of course, there’s a conspiracy afoot. The plot does offer a few inspired turns, but for the most part this Bruckheimer-lite production directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious and XXX) feels like a jittery video game wedded to a Maxim spread — when the planes aren’t carving up the sky, the camera hangs on Biel’s derriere.
