Skeletons and the Girl-Faced Boys, Sufjan Stevens, and Fall Out Boy
BY IAN SANDS

SKELETONS AND THE GIRL-FACED BOYS | "GIT" | GHOSTLY INTERNATIONAL

Sweetly sung falsettos echo the chorus vocals on the Snoop Dogg/Pharrell collab "Beautiful," but Skeletons and the Girl-Faced Boys’ production is much busier than the average Neptune beat. Imagine a troop of lab techies from the future trying to re-create hip-hop grooves and you’re close to "Git."

SUFJAN STEVENS | "THE MAN OF METROPOLIS STEALS OUR HEARTS" | ASTHMATIC KITTY

Word on the blogwire is that Stevens’s latest, the iron-and-whiny Illinois, may be the biggest thing to happen to the state since Chicago. The indie songsmith’s second history project — the first being a tribute to his native Michigan — finds him exploring similar terrain through literate small-time tales like this one.

FALL OUT BOY | "DANCE, DANCE" | ISLAND

The newest addition to the Warped Tour crowd, and one of this year’s headliners, Fall Out Boy deliver a few unforgettable, guilty-pleasure pop-punk nuggets on From Under the Cork Tree. Too bad they don’t stick with melodies long enough to let them develop. Still, lead singer Patrick Stump’s smothering vocals and lyricist/bassist Pete Wentz’s clever turns of phrase keep FOB head and scrawny shoulders above the competition on this one.
