Humans are not the only ones suffering, the local animals faced the Hurricane as well. Many families took their animals with them, but some were left behind, and others have been turned away from the human shelters during the storm, leaving them with nowhere to go. The U. S. Humane Society will be providing aid to animals and pet-owners devastated by Katrina.

IRT and the University of California of San Diego Medical Center have established a team of 30 medical and logistical specialists is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to address the medical needs of displaced victims in the region. They will also be sending construction teams to help homeowners who do not have adequate insurance or other financial resources to repair or rebuild their homes on their own.

This disaster relief group will provide replacement equipment and medical spplies to nonprofit health care clinics in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

Clinics in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi are closed due to power outages; meanwhile, health centers in Texas are being inundated by women who left their birth control pills behind in the rush to evacuate. Some are offering free birth-control and emergency contraception. All donations will go toward getting clinics up-and-running as soon as possible.
