We assume that news junkies can find their way to the mega-news sites. But we highly recommend the following sites for top-notch coverage from a slightly different point of view — especially from overseas.
Britain
The Guardian (www.guardian.co.uk) has published some of the most thorough and thoughtful reports. The Daily Telegraph (www.telegraph.com) and The Times www.the-times.co.uk), both of London, are also well worth clicking onto, especially for commentary. Also, check out the BBC (http.//new.bbc.co.uk), which has posted rich video and sound files.
Israel
A mega-site www.kolisrael.com contains most of the country’s major media outlets. Here, you’ll get stories from a nation that has had long experience with terrorism. The English-language edition of Ha’aretz and The Jerusalem Post are worth special attention.
United States
Sites with smart perspectives in the good ole US include the following:
• Slate
• Salon
• The Nation
• The New Republic
• The Atlantic Monthly
• The National Review
• The Weekly Standard
(The last two sites listed here are decidedly conservative, but they are not knee-jerk. We think it’s a good idea to understand how the smarter side of the conservative movement thinks.)
