MORE DNC EVENTS
From Affleck to Ivins
BY JOCELYN BRICK-TURIN

Judging by the last-minute event announcements flooding our office, convention week in Boston is going to be busier than expected. While this week’s 8 Days a Week section runs down most of the highlights, here are a few more that hit us after deadline.

On Sunday at the Charles Hotel, in Cambridge, turntable acrobats the X-ecutioners will headline a Comcast-sponsored youth forum at 2 p.m. The rally will include a Politically Incorrect–style panel with appearances by Dave Chappelle, MTV News softballer Gideon Yago, Danny Glover, and Cambridge homie Ben Affleck.

"Take Back America," a series of events hosted by the Campaign for America’s Future, is scheduled for July 27, 28, and 29. The assortment of free offerings will feature speakers such as Ed Rendell, John Podesta, Robert Reich, and Carol Browner. Tuesday’s events in the Grand Ballroom of the Royal Sonesta Hotel Cambridge, located at 5 Cambridge Parkway, will start with "Standing Up To Take Back America" with Governor Howard Dean at 2 p.m. For more information, call (617) 806-4200.

New Energy for America: Apollo Project for Jobs & Security, a reception and town-hall forum, is scheduled for Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the State Room, 60 State Street, Boston. For reservations, call (508) 698-6810.

Back at the Royal Sonesta’s Grand Ballroom on July 28, a "Take Back America Debate: Iraq, the US, and World" will go down. On Thursday, "Take Back America" will wrap up with "Organizing To Take Back America" at the Royal Sonesta from 2 to 5 p.m. This final session will showcase "the new progressive infrastructure" that threatens the right-wing status quo. For a more detailed agenda, go to www.ourfuture.org/projects/dconrsvp.cfm.

Democratic GAIN Boston 2004 General Campaign Training, July 26 through 29, will offer campaign-skill training that focuses on winning in November. Programs include "Takin’ it to the Streets: Getting Out the Vote," "Put Your Game Face On: What To Say and How To Say It," and more. For more information, see www.democraticgain.org/convention. Democratic GAIN Boston 2004 Youth Campaign Training, July 23 though 25, will offer similar training to the younger demographic. Details available at www.democraticgain.org/convention.

On Monday, July 26, at 3 p.m. the doors will open for "Books, Politics, and the Culture War" at the First Parish Church, Harvard Square. This panel discussion, starting at 4 p.m., will be moderated by Joe Conason and will feature Al Franken, Toni Morrison, Sidney Blumenthal, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Tickets are available for $3 at the Harvard Book Store, located at 1256 Mass Ave, in Cambridge.

Senator George McGovern and Molly Ivins will sign their respective books, The Essential America: Our Founders and the Liberal Tradition, and Who Let the Dogs In? Incredible Political Animals I Have Known, on Thursday, July 29, at 12:30 p.m. at the Harvard Book Store.
