This week I’ve chosen some hair salon ads from 1974. Fashion of the Seventies has been widely derided, and is without a doubt highly deserving of mockery. Leisure suits are the prime suspect -- and the fact that many people, particularly female BU students, have revived some of these looks today is proof positive that these people have too much money and free time on their hands. (The return of flared pants is surely a sign of the coming Apocalypse.) However, we haven’t really seen a resurgence of Seventies men’s hairstyles, and these ads give us a clue as to why.
