Rhode Island

Rhode Island offers small-scale camping in woodlands and at the seashore on a first-come, first-served basis. Only Fisherman's Memorial State Park accepts reservations, and then by mail only. Except where otherwise noted, stays are limited to 14 consecutive days at Rhode Island campgrounds. No pets, alcohol, or open fires are allowed in state campgrounds. (Well, small campfires are okay, but small pets are still out.) Camping fees for residents are $4 less than those noted below. The parks are open daily, with day-use hours from sunrise to sunset. Campgrounds are open through Oct. 31, except as noted. For more information on camping in Rhode Island's state parks, write to the Dept. of Environmental Management, Division of Parks and Recreation, 2321 Hartford Ave., Johnston, RI 02919, or call (401) 222-2632.
