Opened in 1896 in the style of an Italian palazzo, the museum houses Japanese arms and armor, screens, lacquers, and ceramics; Middle Eastern rugs and decorative arts; one of the largest collections of Chinese cloisonne outside the Orient; a Shinto wheel shrine; a classical casts gallery; and American paintings. Open Wed. through Fri. from noon to 5 p.m. Open Sat. and Sun. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also open on Tues. in July and Aug. Admission $6, $3 for students and seniors, $2 for children 6 through 18. The single admission fee provides entry to all four museums at the Springfield Quadrangle.
