The Bates Dance Festival is an international community of choreographers, performers, educators, and students performing and creating new work. The festival includes modern, postmodern, tap, jazz, and improvisation. All events at the Schaeffer Theater unless otherwise noted. Concerts are at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Tickets $5 to $20.

Sat., Aug. 11, Different Voices, works from Bill "Crutch" Shannon, Larry Keigqin, Charlotte Griffin, Akiko Kitamura, Ting-Chu Cho, Hartati Sakti, Mano Preto, and others.

Tues., Aug. 14, Moving in the Moment, improvisational dance and movement with contact improviser Nancy Stark Smith. At the Alumni Gym.

Thurs., Aug. 16, 17, The Liz Lerman Dance Exchange "Hallelujah Project", presents "In Praise of the Creative Spirit."

Sat, Aug. 18, Student Repertory Concert & Festival Finale, informal showing of works by festival participants. At Alumni Gym.
