Best spot to laugh last (and Best)

Once you've laughed your way though the latest Mr. Show DVD, you may well crave a weekly fix of original comedy. Since Saturday Night Live has been stale for years, consider heading to Inman Square for The Great & Secret Comedy Show. Hosted by Charlestown brothers Dave and Chris Walsh, the free late-night comedy showcase -- it's held Thursdays from 10 p.m. to midnight -- features a mix of experimental stand-up and sketch comedy, films, and the occasional band. The chance to bring your own beer, the intimate theater setting, and the conspicuous absence of drunken hecklers and bachelorette parties only add to the show's underground appeal. With reports of a recent visit by the producer of PSNBC, NBC's only performance/development laboratory, two things are for certain: the show is indeed great, but (sadly) it can't remain secret for long.

The Great & Secret Comedy Show, ImprovBoston Theater, 1253 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, (617) 576-1253; www.improvboston.com.
