Best use of Yankees fans

If there must be devoted fans of the New York Yankees in existence, let alone in our own back yard, we can at least put them to use in a positive way, as when prison inmates clean the garbage off highway roadsides. The Neighborhood Restaurant and Bakery in Somerville's Union Square employs several of the most die-hard Pinstripers fans you'll ever meet as brunch waiters and busboys on the outdoor patio during the warm-weather months (which is, not coincidentally, baseball season). They wear their Yankees jerseys and caps, and serve up reminders of their team's lead over the Red Sox along with your coffee, but the heaping plates of food they bring -- the Neighborhood has what is quite possibly the best brunch in Greater Boston -- makes it worth the abuse.

Neighborhood Restaurant and Bakery, 25 Bow Street, Somerville, (617) 628-2151.
