Best romantic restaurant What is it about a panorama that moves lovers so? Does it register as some sort of metaphor for a future that stretches out before them? Does it promise them the moon and the stars? Whatever it does, it does it best at the Top of the Hub. The upscale American restaurant on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Tower keeps the décor simple, its hues muted, in deference to the stunning views from its enormous plate-glass windows. The formal dining room overlooks the Charles and far beyond; while in the bar-and-lounge area, you and yours can watch the lights of the Hub and the harbor over martinis like the Mother-of-Pearl (which sounds like just the drink to slip an engagement ring into). Gold tiles, beaded curtains, archways, and mosaics -- element for element, Spanish fave Dalí is a wonderland, casting a spell on diners that still goes unbroken after 14 years. Virtually windowless, its intimate feel derives not from views but from cozy nooks and candlelight -- not to mention the menu itself, tapas being the ultimate couples' food. And hey, if tapas like green-lipped mussels with avocado and pork sausage with figs aren't seductive, we don't know what is. Top of the Hub, 800 Boylston Street, Boston, (617) 536-1775. Dalí, 415 Washington Street, Somerville, (617) 661-3254.
