Best store for musical instruments

From devotees of Ronnie James Dio to lovers of Blind Lemon Jefferson, if you're a musician, you'll end up at Daddy's Junky Music. Within spitting range of Berklee College of Music (the original school of rock), the flagship store sells guitars, PA equipment, drums, and amps, and offers lessons, rentals, and repair services. You can also browse used inventory online and swap used CDs for merchandise credit.

Originally opened as a guitar shop, the full-service Cambridge Music Center is still the destination of choice for budding and experienced guitarists, particularly those seeking quality used instruments at reasonable prices. The knowledgeable, low-key staff is an asset to both the children who take lessons here and touring professional performers. The store is also well-known for its classical-sheet-music collection, which has been tapped by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and other national groups.

Daddy's Junky Music, 165 Mass Ave, Boston, (617) 247-0909; Cambridge Music Center, 1906 Mass Ave, Cambridge, (617) 547-8263.
