Best restaurant for watching the Rose Kennedy Greenway take shape
Given the Bostonian propensity for delays and cost overruns, there's no telling when the Rose Kennedy Greenway will finally be complete. But Boston's new ribbon of parkland is already taking shape, healing the scars left by the Central Artery and reconnecting long-separated areas of the city. There's no better place to watch this transformation than Haymarket Pizza, which sits amid convenience stories and halal shops a stone's throw from where the John F. Fitzgerald Expressway once split Haymarket from the North End. Grab a slice and take a seat at the window - or, on a nice day, park yourself at one of the makeshift tables set up outside. As you look toward Hanover Street, you'll see an army of workmen and heavy machinery laboring to turn the Big Dig's detritus into a striking new urban landscape. It's a fascinating scene. And it doesn't hurt that the pizza is damn good.

Haymarket Pizza, 106 Blackstone Street, Boston, (617) 723-8585.
