Best way to make the most of your wardrobe
It all depends on what you want to wear.
Let's say you want to put on your Sunday (or Friday-night, more likely) best, see and be seen, sip some drinks, and not break a sweat. Well, then dress to impress and drop by Sonsie, the Newbury Street establishment that's been serving well-made martinis (just right, in a large chilled glass) and eclectic gourmet meals (the brick-oven pizzas are intriguing) with style and class for a decade. The jazzy, lounge-y, leather-y ambiance opens early and closes late, making it the perfect place to gussy up for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Sit at a sidewalk table to gawk at Boston's elite, or sit at the bar to gawk at the waitstaff.
If you're looking to don your funkier garb, but still want to feel like you're going out in style, head over to Kings Bowling Alley, an adult fun house (whose manager also oversees Sonsie) complete with bowling, billiards, and a lounge. The vibe is more casual, but you can still order martinis and dishes like salmon, fondue, and steak. The 16-lane, disco-lit alley pumps in music that's a little less relaxing, but a lot more fun to dance to - especially in bowling shoes. Who knows - maybe the specialty-drink concoctions will help your score. And if you want to make even more of a fashion statement, you can always buy a bowling shirt in the lobby.
Sonsie, 327 Newbury Street, Boston, (617) 351-2500; Kings Bowling Alley, 50 Dalton Street, Boston, (617) 266-2695.
