Highest concentration of listening posts for the indecisive
Virgin Megastore may not want to hear this, but we like using its Newbury Street outpost as a free thrill. If it's raining and we want indoor fun, or if we're feeling too broke for a movie, Virgin offers hours of free, no-hurries amusement. With dozens and dozens of listening posts here, you can spend hours checking out new music. If the album you want isn't on a listening post, the interactive kiosks can scan most discs in the store for samples. Throw in plasma-screen televisions and the occasional live DJ spinning in the dance section, and you have your own walk-in iPod. Of course, once you're inside, you may find the urge to splurge impossible to resist - but would that really be so bad?

Virgin Megastore, 360 Newbury Street, Boston, (617) 896-0950, www.virginmega.com.
