Best way to get rid of all those old suits and dresses that don't fit you anymore
It can take up to six weeks to get a half-hour appointment with the busy folks over at the Garment District, but it's worth the wait if you've got a closet full of nice suits and dresses that you know you're never going to wear again. The process is easy: just pack 'em all up and bring them to this immense vintage/used-clothing store in Kendall Square at the appointed time, and staffers will sort through it all, let you know what they think they can sell (throwing the rest onto the first-floor dollar-a-pound piles if you don't want to lug home the rejects), and a few days later you'll get an itemized list in the mail of the stuff they took and how it's all been priced. Of course, the Garment District does take a cut. But it's better than letting that old crap clog up your closets for another year.

Garment District, 200 Broadway, Cambridge, (617) 876-5230, www.garment-district.com.
