Best place to buy a tux - for richer or poorer
The elite gentleman looking to clad himself in Matteo Maas, Monsieur by Givenchy, and Lord West will want to perambulate to Newbury Street and peruse the wares at Classic Tuxedo, where there's no such thing as too formal. Impress your snooty in-laws in a grosgrain shawl-lapel tuxedo. Stand out at the gala premiere in a trendy mandarin with a band collar. "Swing hats and chains available for purchase."
If, on the other hand, the sky is not the limit, and the wedding is a little more bohemian than Brahmin, the man of more modest means can head to Keezer's, in Central Square - "The only used clothing store around that actually pays cash for stuff," boasts manager David Soodak. That's right, walk in with the tux that, let's say, hasn't kept up with your rate of expansion, and they'll give you a good 30 or 40 bucks for it - and that will go a long way here, where the most expensive thing in the store is a $395 Italian tuxedo. Most used tuxedo jackets sell for around $50 or $60 here, and you'll cough up another $22.50 for the pants. Mandarin collars? "We don't have a lot of crazy stuff," Soodak says. But when you're done selecting your formalwear, you can also pick out jeans and a T-shirt to change into afterward.
