AUGUST 15 If you’ve always been skeptical of vegetarian cuisine (it’s not all tofu, we swear), there’s no better place to be than Veggie Planet (48 Palmer Street, Cambridge) on August 15. That’s when the restaurant hosts a five-course vegetarian dinner celebrating locally grown products and benefiting the Federation of Massachusetts Farmers Markets, a nonprofit that manages seven farmers’ markets in the Greater Boston area. The evening’s menu includes silken tomato gazpacho, millet cake with Berkshire blue cheese, and peach-blueberry gratin; every course will be paired with a Massachusetts wine or hard cider. The dinner begins at 7 pm and the cost is $60; call 781.893.8222 or e-mail greg@massfarmersmarkets.org for reservations and information. AUGUST 17 Exercise your rights — your beer-drinking rights, that is — on August 17, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Cambridge Common (1667 Mass Ave, Cambridge). The restaurant is participating in a Samuel Adams Beer Drinker’s Bill of Rights event, which aims to raise awareness about drinking and supporting craft beer. Sign the Cambridge Common’s Bill of Rights and be entered for a chance to win a trip to Oktoberfest; then take part in the Great American Beer Challenge, a beer-related trivia game. Call 617.547.1228 for information. "One can never drink too many margaritas" is one of our favorite sayings. Okay, it’s not a saying. And it’s actually not even true. But that won’t stop us from heading to Noir (Charles Hotel, 1 Bennett Street, Cambridge) on August 17, for its Tequila Fiesta. From 6 to 10 pm, listen to the music of the Irie Roots Steel Drum Band, drink margaritas and other specialty tequila drinks, and sample tamales, empanadas, ceviche, and other tequila-appropriate fare. The cost is $25; call 617.234.8090 for reservations and information. AUGUST 18 - 21 Any festival that’s been around for 95 years must be doing something right. Find out August 18 through 21, when the Sorrento Cheese Fishermen’s Feast celebrates with entertainment, food, cooking demonstrations, and traditional processions through the streets of the North End.
