Geography class
BY CHRIS NELSON

DJing has always had as much to do with geography as with hip-hop — minus the turf wars. Here’s a ride from Philly to Michigan and right back to East vs. West.

FLOSSTRADAMUS

"OVERNIGHT STAR"

Yes, everything about Flosstradamus — from the goofy name to the stuttering electro-handclaps — reeks of . . . let’s say "influence" from a certain Philly DJ duo. But this track — a seamless mash of Twista’s "Overnight Celebrity" and Sigur Rós’s "Staralfur" — bangs nonetheless.

DJ BENZI

"SWANG (BENZI REFIX)"

Living in Michigan, you can bet DJ Benzi’s learned a few things about staying warm in the winter. That’s probably why he saved this heatrock — which lays a classic Bone Thugs a cappella over the über-smooth beat to Trae’s "Swang" — to help get you through the coldest months of the year.

COSMO BAKER

"50 CENT & THE GAME VS. SNOOP DOGG & DR. DRE"

In a rap tag team battle for the ages, Philly/Brooklyn superstar DJ Cosmo Baker pits the G-Unit blazer "This Is How We Do" against the Cali Gs’ "Deep Cover." It’s East vs. West all over again, except no one dies and everyone wins.
