Now, More People Can Hear of His Exploits
Of course, no bad deed goes unrewarded. The resume- embellishing Mr. Severin is about to go national according to this Globe story. (See previous Media Log post.)

If only Infinty would transplant him to some other market, while they're at it.

My biggest Fear is that they'll try to plug him into Brudnoy's old slot. That would be an unforgiveable insult to everyone with working brain cells.

Maybe the operative word will be "about." Lehigh's accusations are finding their way all over the Internet, and it could force Infinity to pull back in order to save face.

Timing is everything.

I hope you are right, Mike

But I am afraid it isn't the case and the cat is already out of the bag. These Radio syndications are in big trouble and are on shaky grounds and will sign up just about anyone as long as they stand out enough and can bring in more traffic.

Right now they are bringing a lot of cash but the future is very bleak. They are cutting down on commercial time and the number of commercial to stay competitive and more people are jumping to satellite, esepcially with the addition with customized local info like traffic on satellite.

Why else would Viacom be trying to ditch and sell Infinity. They have some huge spikes in election times but without Sports, radio would be in a lot worse shape.

There other hosts who say all sorts of outrageous and insane things all day but they are still on the air. Sometimes, someone will complain and start a wave hard to stem but very often the fascist MattMills' of the world will help them weather it.

karmazin did the same for Stern. We all know the details on that subject.

If you are Severin though, you must be relieved not to have to lie everyday by pretending you are a Bean Town loyal trhough and through. Remember that he refuses to deal with 'local issues because they are less relevant' but because he doesn't know ANYTHING about politics and history of this town since he is not explosed to it everyday.

Entercom's WRKO and WEEI - who easily beat his show even on the AM- have been running ads saying "...that other FM guy from his basement in Long Island..." or close to it.

Most important, it maybe a good thing if you don't like his shtick since his lies and inconstencies are oign to be exposed on a national level now and will sink faster.

By that I mean, he was on Imus yesterday chiding Bush and the Iraq initiative when he was behind all things Bush all the time all along. Now he is going with the wave and flipflopping to avoid being tarnished any further. How can he ride Bush's coattails when hte latter's approval ratings are in the 40% range???

Jay's logic is wrong and incomplete and deceiving and dangerous and most importantly and unfortunately still efective to a small extent since somep ignorant morons still call him to agrre with and compliment him.

There is always those airheads and bimbos and ignorant that will be a possible national audience for him.

One of the tactics WTKK resorts to to protect its ratings is to sabotage WBUR frequencies. They have a secondary signal in the 90.9 range that really crowds BUR badly and makes it inaudible. Now I frankly have grown bored with BUR's shtick and cadence but I'd still listen to it and the BBC rather than Fascist radio 96.9 FM. I can't catch any of it in the Boston area, in town, and on a few radios. That is so unnatural with the BUR signal being so close and relatively strong.

I hope the FCC gets to learn about this or the sleepy idiots at BUR who miss every opportunity to better their station. Maybe LaCamara - A GREAT addition- will reverse missteps and also address this WTKK and SEVERIN conspiracy to skew ratings.
(listening 'BUR???)

I can't wait until Jay kicks the 'loyal Best and Brightest' Boston fans and show how loyal he really is now that he has a bigger Mic. It would show his true stripes. He has never been part of ANY winning or great campaign and yet takes credit for such work. The only work he lovingly touts and tries to get credit for is for Buchanan. Which is GREAT for us and embrassing for him since Pat does not agree with him on ANYTHING today , in style nor substance, and has done complete 180's and has sounded very reasonable and much more level-headed that Jay will ever sound. (Ever watch him on McLaughlin or read his recent books/articles??)

So the Buchanan link would sink him even more quickly and embarrasingly on a national stage.

One thing is true about the show: its title ' Jay Has Issues'

Indeed does.

You don't have to Mike.

But obviously your time is not that precious since you found enough time to post a sarcastic post.

I am used to your vaccuous two liners. >>>> good insight on your brains capacity.

Keep it up.

Severin's name is mentioned, and people post long commentaries about him. A Globe columnist is obsessed with him. He is a lightning rod for controversy which makes him, uh, attractive for radio syndication. One can't argue with success, can one?

The Globe columnist may of may not be obsessed with him, but what a about the issue that Severin lied to his listeners regarding his journalistic resume and awards?
Will it affect his Boston chances and does it really matter?
By the way, has it been reported previously that Severin always did his show from New York?
It was news to me.

Not a lot of new ground being plowed here. Generic right-wing BS from Sag Harbor; generic left-wing BS from Times Sq. Anon@11:44 had it right: it's all about the "benjamins". Neither the NYT nor Severin remotely resemble the real America.

Here's some new ground.
A member of the media, who holds the political world responsible for their every move is a fraud.
The "best and the brightest," are being preached to by a leader who lies about everything from his name, to his education, to his background.
His name even being mentioned in the first posting, with the late great David Brudnoy is a disgrace.
The only thing worse them him being taken off the air at WTKK would be if Sean Hannity replaced him and entered the Boston radio market.
Now let let's see what this new ground sprouts.

WTKK sabotaging WBUR's signal? Surely you jest. There is a pheonomena of "I.F. interference" (intermediate frequency)...where any station can interfere to a signal 10.6 or 10.8 MHz away on the dial. But it only occurs very close in to the interference source...granted WTKK is on top of the Prudential skyscraper, and WBUR is out on FM-128 where Rt.128 crosses Rt.9. But 90.9 is only 6 MHz away from 96.9, so I.F. interference cannot occur.

WBUR does have reception issues in lots of places downtown...that's because the skyscrapers cause terrible multipath interference. It's a common problem with any station that doesn't broadcast from a downtown location.

In fact, if anything WTKK receives interference from our other big NPR outlet here, WGBH! Well, actually, not WGBH proper on 89.7, but rather their Beacon Hill repeater on 96.3FM. It's a very low wattage (5 watts) and HIGHLY directional repeater, located on the same tower as WMBR in Kendall Square. It doesn't really interfere with WTKK in any real sense, but technically it required an FCC waiver because of the FCC's somewhat arbitrary "3rd adjacent" (three spaces away on the dial) interference rules.

WBUR does have 3rd adjacent issues with Boston College's WZBC on 90.3, although they are primarily limited to a short range around the WZBC transmitter on top of Chestnut Hill...mostly confined to the campus boundaries. WMFO on 91.5 over at Tufts has a similar effect on WBUR, although like WZBC it's mostly confined to the campus.

Unfortunately for WBUR, and many other stations down on the left end of the dial, there are many, many pirate broadcasters who frequent the area between 88.1 and 91.9FM. 91.3FM has become a favorite haunt for the occasional dim-witted pirate and unlike 3rd adjacent interferece, which is generally harmless...2nd adjacent can cause real problems under the right conditions. More than one has tried to broadcast on 91.3 in the Dorchester region only to bring down the wrath of WUMB, WMLN and WBUR on themselves.

Hey Aaron,

Thank you for responding to my concern.

This might seem trivial, but it is extremely irritating since on a daily basis, EVERY single day, i don't get to listen to BUR because of this interference problem so I hope it is not a systematic problem and BUR would pay attention to it. (ALl the times I missed and WIL miss BBC's World Service and get instead Cranky Imus scratchy voice instead.

I appreciate your explanation and detail. I apprecita the fact that the interrference might indeed be happenstance and very random. YOu may be right. It is hard to narrow it down when it comes to waves and so many signals around the area and the shifting and crowding college stations playing a role in it too.

However, the reason why I think it is sort of by design on the part of WTKK is:
- The interference is really a strong one and from 90.9 all the way to 96.9 is a distant enough sepration. Other strong signals don't ever get that close to mixig with BUR.

- I remember reading once on one of the Boston Radio info sites a list of all Boston frequencies and staions. I remember seeing a secondary frequency right next to 90.9's neighborhood that belonged to WTKK and was a repeater like signal. If I remember correctly it was based in Beacon Hill somewhere. Right away, it seemed like a suspicious way to me for TKK to elbow their successful nemesis.

- This is not confined to One radio, One geographical location or ONE time of the day. It is all over the place and throughout the day. Even at night and early morning?? Hmmm I would think it would lessen with less traffic and activity. Yet it doesn't.

- As unbelievable and baffling as it may sound, there are only TWO news/talk radio stations in Hub of Education Boston. - Up until now at least when Satellite offers new choices like the unfairly dispached phenomenal Edwards *-
Yet, WTKK is still not able to dominate and really crush BUR. That neo-fascist outfit is so insecure it has to in my mind at least resort to such low and kindergarten tactics to silence BUR's power and reach.

So it is all too convenient to give WTKK yet another pass. If they were truly kosher, they'd make sure their signal does not anywhere close to another competitor, however absent they are in the arbitron ratings -unpublished rather.

So what do you think and what info do you have about any TKK repeaters and secondary signals???

Thanks for your insightful input.

N.

* Yeah, no GBH doesn't count, it is half music and lots of its programming is NPR-cloned material, at least up until now. Both say content will become more and more seperate and different. We'll see.
